Anyone else notice that when the Home button pushed alert is received by alarm.com application when you drill in to it, no one is at your door?
Today, I get the home button pushed notification and I immediately click it. When the video pops up no one is there and my package is sitting on the floor (the vehcile is not even there) so this tells me there was at least a 45+ second delay.
Anyone know how to make this work better?
I’ve noticed when you directly used the skybell HD app (before I hooked it into alarm.com) that it worked much better.
No, I have not noticed such a thing as normal application. 45 seconds is a pretty big delay if that is what you are seeing, and you are likely looking at either network connection issues, insufficient upload speed or signal quality, or a delay in the push notification through the carrier.
For reference, a few tests with one here: Button Pressed, within two seconds Alarm.com dealer history for the account shows the request and a push notification sent, within about five seconds my phone buzzes, a few more and I am seeing video.
To dig into the history and verify what kind of delay is happening and where it is occurring and have any chance of accurately assessing the circumstance you are referring to you’ll need to contact your current provider. We do not have access to the logs.
Ideally you’ll want to test this. Press the doorbell and time the delay with a stopwatch/app. Do this a few times. Is it wildly different each time? Does it take about the same amount of time each time? What is the delay of those tests? Mark the exact time you press the button. Contact your provider for details about when they received the button press event and how much time is between the button push event logged in history and the push notification logged in history. That will give you how long it takes for the button push to be logged and how long it takes the push notification to reach your phone.
Determining where the delay is occurring will provide a better chance at troubleshooting and resolution.
It won’t and can’t be instantaneous, but yes, 45 seconds is a long time for someone to wait for a response after pushing a doorbell.
In detail what the dealer is going to have access to in history:
Button Push (date) (time, to the second)
then a Notification log when the Push Notification is generated (date) (time, to the second)
After 10 tests I’m getting times between the button push and actually receiving the notification on my phone of anywhere between 2 to 7 seconds. In the logs the notification is sent 1 second after the button push. So pretty much all the variation is coming down to the push notification after it is sent in my case.
My guess is that the case you are referencing is likely going to come down to a delay in the push notification hitting the phone, but if the wireless network link quality is not high that could also play a part. The best way to determine it though would be testing and having your provider check the link quality reported by the device.
I suspect that what might not be helping is that I have a Lorex Security System with 5 4MP cameras. It’s an NVR.
While I’m not looking at the video on my phone or computer, I wonder if it’s eating up bandwidth…
I’ll conduct those tests and reach out to my dealer/share with the group.
