Sensors Just Beep When I Try to Learn Them

Hello DIY community!

Was hoping you could help me. I’m trying to set up my sensors but they just beep at me when I try to learn them. I press SHIFT and then LEARN. Then I trip the sensor by opening the door or window but the 2GIG panel just beeps at me as soon as the sensor is tripped. Any help or ideas would be helpful.

Thanks!
Tim

The panel beeping is an acknowledgement that a signal was sent during the pairing process. Here is an example of learning recessed sensor into a 2GIG panel.

During the process, when the panel beeps after tripping the desired sensor, is it reporting the corresponding TX-ID? You will want to check to make sure that the TX-ID printed on the desired sensor is what shows up at the panel after clicking learn then tripping the sensor.

If they dont match, you may be getting a signal from another sensor that is sending its TX-ID at the same time.

Hi Tyler,

When the panel beeps after tripping the desired sensor, it doesn’t report the corresponding TX-ID to the panel. It just beeps and then nothing populates on the panel. Also, the sensors don’t have the TX-ID printed on them so I have to rely on the learning function.
Just wondering why it would beep but no TX-ID would populate.

Thanks for the help!

Interesting, do you know what the make/model of the sensor is? Are they new sensors that have not been learned into the panel before? Would it be possible to post a picture if unsure?

If learning in a sensor on its natural loop (the loop the sensor automatically learns in on), and the sensor has already been learned in on that loop, the panel will beep when the sensor has been tripped in learn mode but the TX-ID wont show up.

I attached a picture of the sensors. I don’t know the make or model.

They were learned in before. I just recently bought this house; the panel was locked out; and the previous owners couldn’t be reached. In an attempt to unlock the panel, I did a hard reset. Now I know that I should’ve just bought a new cell module, lesson learned.

I might reset everything again and start from square one. I think I got some sensors mixed up while I was learning and learned a sensor when I didn’t mean to. The motion sensor was plugged in and was tripping while I was learning other sensors so I think that might be part of the problem.

Thanks for your help! I think I’m on the right path now.

Ahh that makes sense! The sensor in the image is not a wireless sensor but a wired one. The sensor has likely been converted into wireless with a takeover module. Wired sensors would have been previously utilized by an older panel, the board for which is likely in a metal can located in the basement or attic.

If using the 2GIG GC2 panel, this would probably be the 2GIG TAKE-345 Super Switch.

This Super Switch would be connected to the old wired sensors, then it would convert the signal into wireless. If you are utilizing this device, you should see it somewhere around the metal can. Can you confirm?

If the sensors are already learned in, you should see a few sensors with a TX-ID in sequential order all on loop 1 (the loop that sensors being utilized by the TAKE would use) the TXID would be something like XXXXXX1, XXXXXX2, XXXXXX3, etc.

Manual and installation instructions for the TAKE-345 can be found via the previous link.
