Seasonal zwave devices

I don’t think this is possible, but just to make sure…

I have several devices for controlling “seasonal” things around the house on a schedule, like decorations for various holidays such as Halloween and Christmas.

A basic example of this would be Christmas tree lights - I have a Minoston mini smart plug that controls the tree lights on a schedule. When I pack up the tree lights, I pack the smart plug up with them to use the following year. I pack it up with the lights because I have found that if I don’t, I might end up repurposing the plug for something else throughout the year and then come Christmas time I need to buy or find something else to use.

It’s easy enough to toggle the schedule off until next season. But after unplugging the device, alarm.com flags it as a malfunction because it is not reachable. This results in constant error messages displayed on my panel, in the app, and in my portal.

Is there any way to get alarm.com/iqpanel4 to ignore a device without removing it entirely from the zwave network so that I don’t get the malfunction messages? Admittedly it’s minor, but I have enough of them that it is still annoying that I have to remember to remove each device from the network before packing it up and then re-add them all when unpacking them the following season. And of course, sometimes I forget to do this, and the plug is already packed away in the attic, and now I need to go find the box it is in, get it out, plug it in, remove it, etc.

No, unfortunately there is no way to program the panel to disregard malfunction events on those devices. We can dismiss a trouble condition in Alarm.com manually but that only affects what shows up in the app, it doesn’t affect the panel, and anytime the panel reports that status again it will show up in Alarm.com.

If you would like us to dismiss any trouble conditions in Alarm.com please send a private message with the names of the devices that need to be dismissed.

There is an additional effect when unplugging and leaving Z-wave devices unpowered as well. Z-wave is a mesh network. Signals repeat through AC powered devices to bolster the range and reliability of the network. Unplugging Z-wave devices without deleting them and/or running a network rediscovery may impact the signal quality of other devices in the Z-wave mesh network.

OK, I suspected it wasn’t going to work. I’ll just remove and re-add them every season. Thanks!
