Safety Button real life usage

Hello. Just saw an ad about this feature that showed someone coming over from an online marketplace to pick up a couch, which got me thinking. Now I’m trying to understand how one would use the Alarm.com safety button in real life. I’ve read all the docs on this I can find but I have a question on its actual use.

So, say you are walking to your car at night and feel unsafe. You’d update the safety button to explain where you are and the situation you are in. Then, at that point how do you use it? Do you press the button and keep it held down during the walk until you are at your car safely? Then at that point lift the button and enter your pin to cancel?

Or, do you just walk to your car and press the button after you have a problem?

Just trying to understand the best way it should be used. Thanks all.

The safety button can be used both ways. You can use it as a panic button or just quickly press it and release. It can also be used to schedule a check-in at a certain time.

You don’t need to provide information on what is going on before using the button, but that information can be useful in the event that emergency responders need to be dispatched. You can also schedule a check-in at a certain time.

If a PIN hasn’t been entered after the button was released, they’ll text and call to check on you. If contact can’t be made or emergency assistance is needed, they’ll dispatch the authorities.

Another way that I’ve heard it be used in scenarios like the one you mentioned is to activate the button, wait for them to call, and stay on the line with an operator until you arrive at the car safely.
