Resolution Wireless Translator Tamper Issue

I have a Resolution translator that has worked flawlessly for nearly 10 year (this could very well be the issue, but bear with me), starting with a 2gig panel, and now on a Qolsys IQ Panel 4. The issue is that it will now spontaneously throw a Tamper (naturally at 4 or 5 in the morning). The issue is irregular - it has happened only once or twice. I’ve changed batteries, I’m not convinced it’s a battery issue since I believe it has battery level?

In any case, until I am completely forced to replace it, is there a way to disable the tamper signal? If there is a way to edit the sensor group alarm behavior, I can’t find it. I would simply set the group to not trigger an alarm, as the translator itself is in a fairly secure location.

Thoughts, suggestions?

What is the model number of the translator you are using? Most translators do not need to be learned in with a supervisory zone, that is usually optional, so if that Translator zone is causing false alarms from a tamper you may be able to just disable the zone.

I would also recommend checking for a physical reason for the tamper though, most of the time this is caused by the cover being loose. Some devices have a rear tamper as well, if you confirm the model number I can double check the manual for tamper causes.

Hi Jason - I’ll come back with more details on the translator (after the entire house is awake) but it’s wall mounted, with a front cover - quick searches suggest its a RE224GT. There is no physical change to the unit, and certainly not when it triggered the alarm. The cover latch is secure.

The IQP4 has it in a sensor group called Translator, and I can’t figure out how to change the group behavior. In any case, I do figure it’s an age related issue - but in the meantime I’ll want to disable the panic related trigger if possible.

That’s not possible, there is only one sensor group option when selecting a translator type zone.

The translator zone should be optional however with that translator, you could just delete the translator zone, and just leave the sensor zones so that the translator tamper events will not be picked up and cannot trigger an alarm.

So to be clear as to what you’re saying, go to the sensor list, find the translator, and delete it, as the translator itself I want to ignore - simply allowing it to pass through the signals of the old GE sensors?

Correct. You would no longer get a low battery alert (if it occurred) for that translator but it would stop the false tamper events on the translator zone from causing false alarms. When paired to the IQ Panel, that supervisory zone can only be set to sensor group 13, which will cause an alarm if tampered while the system is armed.

Those old Resolution Products translators do not need to be added as a supervisory zone for the sensors to work, the sensor translation is plug and play.

This can be a temporary solution so that you can arm the system without worrying about false tamper alarms.

If there is no obvious physical issue with the cover or the tamper switch you might consider eventually replacing the translator or the sensors. How many sensors are GE and being translated?

Ok, I’ll give this a try - thank you for the guidance!

As for the GE translation, there’s still 6 in total, including door/window, motion, and glass break. So kind of on the fence as whether it’s worth updating them yet (though I realize that’s the better pathway).
