Re-Configure Sensor Notification

I installed a wireless sensor to an outside gate to my 2Gig System and have successfully configured it to provide only a notification not trigger an alarm.

The notification I get is a tamper notification vs someone opened the gate instead that the gate was opened.

Any suggestions on how to correct?

Hmm. Well the first thing to investigate if you are receiving sensor reports you do not expect or incorrect signals between sensor and panel is the Loop number in programming.

What is the model number of the sensor?

I don’t think I have illustrated my problem: I installed a Honeywell 5816OD switch on my 2Gig System. The devices is connected to my panel and to my alarm.com account. I installed the device on an outside gate and all I want is a notification. I don’t want the alarm to go off if someone decides to enter my backyard while the system is armed.

The not being part of the alarm trigger works fine. The problem is I get a notification that the outdoor gate has been tampered instead of open when the gate is opened and closed.

So my question is how do I change the type of notification that it is not a tamper but a open ?

The Alarm.com notification generated is based on the type of signal Alarm.com receives from the panel.

Does your panel report tamper when the sensor is opened and closed? Does your panel report open and Alarm.com notification states tamper?

If your panel reports tamper when the device opens and closes, you will want to check the loop number in programming as above.

If using the built in reed switch and magnet: you should use Loop 2

The 5816OD will also throw a tamper if you have installed it using the clasp back-plate. Are you opening the gate to trip the sensor or are you pulling the sensor off the gate away from the magnet?

I have the sensor installed on loop 2. When I take the cover off the sensor I get a tamper alert. I get a report from panel when i open and close the gate.

Would it be possible that the sensor is in range to report a tamper but not an open and close?

No. That shouldn’t be an issue.

If you are a suretyDIY subscriber, I can take a look at the programming and rule setup.

Off the top of my head, do you have the sensor programmed as “Motion” or “Contact”?

It should be contact, but when programming it as a no response type sensor, the equipment type will default to motion.

Thanks - I have bought from suretyDIY - but don’t get my service through you guys - I will when my contract is update.

The sensor is programmed as a contact.

I’m traveling but thought I might send a picture of the two setup pages off the panel. Would that help?

Of course. We like using our forum for tech support because multimedia communication is easy to accomplish. Any video/photo of the setup would be great.

Also, are all the notifications one for one? As in every time you open the gate you get a tamper notification? Or do you only get a notification some of the time?

I only get a tamper if I take the case off the unit.

I don’t get anything when the gate opens and closes.

Ahh, I was going off of this:

The problem is I get a notification that the outdoor gate has been tampered instead of open when the gate is opened and closed.

Ok, that makes more sense in this circumstance. Have you set this device up for sensor activity monitoring in Alarm.com? You would need to create a notification in Alarm.com based off the sensor activity.

See the video below:

If you have already set it up, make sure the recipient address that was selected for it has not been changed or removed. Users can be edited to change their contact addresses, but you will need to go into the notifications to select the new contact methods.

That is the weird thing is it is show on Alarm. com. I have the chime on and don’t get a notification on the panel or through alarm.com and I do have chime on.

I will attach the setup screens in a couple of days. Thanks for helps.

When editing the sensor on the panel, can you take a quick photo of the confirmation screen that shows the sensor programming? It will be immediately after hitting “next” or cycling down past all the questions for that sensor.

I have a question to ask, I have a ademco 5816 wireless alarm sensor that I see it has loop contacts screws, can I put a wired magnetic contact on this sensor so that I can relocate the sensor to my pool gate to notify me when someone goes into the pool area (children)? if so, is there a certain type of contact to use and or programming.

Yep, it would be the same setup as this.

Loop 2 is the reed switch, Loop 1 is the wired contact switch.

I believe the operating temperature range bottoms out for that sensor at 32 degrees however, so if you have extended weather colder than that where you live, might be better going with the 5816OD.

It works, you guys are the best!!!

I still can’t seem to get a notification when the gate is opened and closed.

Looks like those images were too large. Can you post an image of your panel sensor settings for this sensor?

Also, can you remove it from the gate, just bring it inside next to the panel and open/close? Make sure chime is turned on for that sensor. Does your panel report it opening?
