I just installed the QOLSYS water valve ( IQWV908-KIT-SL) on my water main and have it connected to my IQ panel. Rules have been set up with alarm.com to close the valve should there be a flood.
It appears that the valve unit does not have a backup battery so I’m assuming it will not function if there’s a power failure. Assuming this is correct, I thought I would plug the valve transformer into a UPS for backup power. My concern is that some UPS’s are not true signwave but squarewave outputs. Would this matter for the valve transformer? I was going to ask QOLSYS this question but their site tells you to contact the service provider.
Also… since valve close rules are resident on alarm.com, if I loose internet service, will the valve fail to close?
As far as the Wi-Fi being off, if you are using the cellular modem, then so long as the panel has power, it will communicate with alarm.com via cell towers and all z wave devices that have power.
I’ll leave the other questions for someone with more electrical experience.
I do wonder if you have experienced a flood and a power outage at the same time.
You could use an UPS, but most affordable UPS units aren’t designed for extended power application, maybe a few hours if there is not much connected. If it is just used for the valve it would probably last a little while, I couldn’t give specifics there.
And yes, as the other poster said, the panel uses a primary cellular connection, so Wifi is a second comm method. Both would need to fail. The panel has its own internal battery backup.
I just connected a new Qolsys water valve to an IQ panel 2. The device shows up and manually I can open and close it via the panel. So far so good.
On the alarm.com app the valve shows up as device ‘water valve’ under the heading water. However the three dots are greyed out and I can’t open any further settings to manual turn the valve on/off in the app. How can I enable this functionality? Thanks.

That sounds like you are looking at the “Manage Devices” page. That is a general settings page that just lists devices. That ellipse icon is disabled on general Z-wave water valves at this time.
To access the valve control page and send commands, scroll down on your home page to the water card.
Thanks, yes, that is the only location where I can see the valve. As neither in the app nor on the alarm.com account webpage there is a ‘water card’ to be found it appears that I need support either from an installer or the monitoring company to enable this card, correct?

Yes, I am not seeing a connected Surety subscription. If you use a different service provider please reach out to them to be sure that the Water Management option is on your service plan.
