Qolsys System

So I received my Qolsys system today. I have some questions on installing the panel to my wall.

I don’t have any power outlets where I’d like to install it, but the house was pre-wired for a security system. Can I use the red cable in the wall next to the door? I believe I have traced it to the bedroom and into the attic where there is an outlet right next to it.

If so, the existing attached power cable to the Qolsys has a black and white wire, but the red cable in the wall has red, black, blue, and yellow inside. Do I use red (+) and black (-) and disregard the others?

The transformer that comes with the Qolsys Panel provides the appropriate amount of power you want to use. The wire that comes attached to the Qolsys Panel that was shipped to you is mainly for testing purposes and convenience.

If you have existing wire already in the wall you could use that provided its not compromised. Make sure that you have tested or traced to determine that the two ends of this red cable are part of the same cable, not two.

The colors don’t matter as much as matching them to the corresponding + and - on the transformer and the panel. If the cable run is 20 feet or more you may want to double up on the conductors.

What gauge is the cable? If it is 22 gauge cable you will most assuredly want to use two conductors for positive and two for negative. Match the colors at the terminals of the panel and transformer positive to positive and negative to negative.

It is definitely longer then 20 feet since it starts downstairs and goes to the far end of the attic. I will combine two wires on each and ensure they are the same on both ends and let you know how it goes.

Got it hooked up successfully on Saturday. I have a question on weather alerts/warnings. Is there a way to turn them off? We are getting a lot of rain and have had some tornado warnings, but the warning were for areas that are about 20-40 minutes from us.

Is there a way to temporarily shut these off, but still leave the panel running normally?

Also, I have to run downstairs to the panel to hit the dismiss button to turn the warning off, but could go off again within 5-10 minutes depending on if they extend the warning times. If we were to install an IQ2 secondary panel could we shut it off/dismiss from there versus having to go to the main panel?

They can be turned off by your provider. Are you a current suretyDIY subscriber? If not, you would need to ask your provider regarding stopping the notifications.

Yes, alerts should be accessible on both.

I am not currently with suretyDIY, but was previously. I went with Livewatch because they gave me a great deal on the following:

1 Qolsys IQ panel
3 mini window/door sensors
1 motion detector
1 Image motion detector
1 KeyFob
2 Yard Signs
Lifetime product warranty (assuming I stay with them)

After my 1 year contract is up with them I plan to switch because I will own the equipment and go with your monitored package because it is cheaper by about $10 a month. Plus, I really enjoy coming here to get help and have questions answered.

We are always happy to help with questions!
