Qolsys Sensors too large for my door

Hi there. I live in a weird old house, and unfortunately the Qolsys mini sensors aren’t mini enough to fit on 2 of my doors, no matter which way I orient them. Are there other compatible sensors that perhaps have a lower profile that I should consider? Unfortunately I don’t think recessed sensors are going to be an option for me.

Thanks!

What would you say the maximum dimensions you have to work with are?

If it’s too small for any wireless door/window contact another option is the IQ Mini Extended which is a little larger but has terminals for a wired door contact. Wired contacts can be much smaller and you can mount the transmitter wherever it fits nearby and run a wire to it.

P.S. if you’re interested in the IQ Mini Extended let us know. We’ve been evaluating it as a possible addition to our store.

This is what the door frame looks like…

The PowerG door contact is a little flatter but not much. How deep is that space and how thick can it be without hitting the door?

Your IQ Panel 2+ is compatible with Interlogix sensors too but they’re even thicker.

If the PowerG won’t work I’m sure you can find a wired door/window contact that would fit and would be able to use the IQ Mini Extended as a wireless transmitter.

The PowerG door/window contact is 0.4" thick vs the IQ Mini which is 0.5" thick so based on that picture the PowerG might fit. It’s 1.2" wide. Would that fit? I can’t tell from the pic.

I think you are allowed a certain but small distance between the two. You could try putting it on the frame (the sensor, larger part) and the smaller part on the door. It might be close enough that it will work. Another option, probably your last one, is that you may have to cut the frame a little to accommodate the larger part (maybe at the bottom so you dont see it easily…

Yes, there is a magnetic gap distance for door/window sensors, it will be different for each sensor. For the IQ DW Mini, that max distance is 3/4 inch.

I was also thinking, you could put the larger part (sensor) on the door and the smaller part right (magnet?) at that 0.5 inch gap on the inner frame. This will keep it really close, From what I remember, the smaller part is not 0.5 inches. thick on the mini’s…I keep saying larger and smaller, sorry you know what i mean

Yes, I think it was tried, (?) however if not, yes you can mount the magnet on the frame and the larger sensor on the door. This is commonly done when the frame does not allow space for the sensor.

Maaaayybe. I’m going to order the powerg sensor and give that a go. Might just be skinny enough. I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks Ryan. Which model exactly do I want? PGx303 (PG9303, PG8303, PG4303)?

Actually, I was able to get the sensor and the magnet mounted just close enough to work. So this issue has been resolved. Thanks everyone for chipping in and helping me solve this.

The PG9303 is the one I typically see available. All have the same housing I believe.

Glad to hear you were able to resolve it. If the distance is near the max magnetic gap be sure to keep an eye out for false triggers for a little while.
