Does the Qolsys IQ panel 4 have lights? Infrared? The identity snaps it takes of the person disarming are useless at night. This seems like an extremely common scenario they must have designed for. I notice the LEDs change color to show state; they should turn them white, maybe provide enough light to give a useful image. Or build in some infrared. Or something other than just take junk pictures?
Unfortunately its not possible to change any panel camera contrast settings and it doesn’t support night vision. Additionally, the LEDs cannot be leveraged to add additional light into the scene, at this time they can only be enabled/disabled.
I have requested updates to this feature to Qolsys, whether or not anything can be done to assist with night time image captures remains to be seen. It could come in the form of a future software update.
You can find patch notes and software update instructions here.
Thanks for the info, and thanks for passing on my suggestion. I’ll put an occupancy sensor light switch where I have the panel, but it’s disappointing to have to do this, when the panel could just be designed well
Not sure if Qolsys tracks the number of people associated with a recommendation/feature request, but you can put my name behind need for enhancement to the night time camera quality. Seems like something drastically overlooked, and it’s not like this is their first panel with a camera. Can’t believe they didn’t at least put in an IR sensor for night time photos. That’s something they should do for the next revision.
I’ll even provide some more specifics for you to pass along to them:
Use the panel motion sensor to flip the LED to white and set to the max brightness of the LED whenever motion is detected and the system is armed. If they don’t want to lose the armed status indicator aspect of the LED, just change 1 LED to white (assuming they are not hardwired as a pair this would work)
As an alternative suggestion to pass along, use the screen brightness–when the screen is at max brightness you get more then enough light in the dark for a usable disarm picture.
Some general logic using the built in motion sensor in the panel:
- LED: If system is armed AND motion is detected by panel motion sensor change LED to white and increase brightness for [duration of entry delay period] then revert to prior LED state
- Screen: If system is armed AND motion is detected by panel AND screen brightness is [not at maximum] then change display brightness to maximum for [duration of entry delay period] then revert to prior screen brightness.
I can’t confirm how they prioritize, but we are happy to forward requests.
