My garage opener has decided to open and close itself repetitively. Has anyone seen this before?
To confirm, are you onsite and is the garage rollup actually going up and down, or is it just reporting like this in Alarm.com?
I believe it’s actually moving, because I found it partially open
To troubleshoot, open/close the garage via the wall button. Does this work and report the correct status in Alarm.com?
Its possible the button is sticking or wiring to the button is bad. I am not showing that these commands are being remotely sent just that status is updating in Alarm.com.
Check the button, you may need to power cycle the overhead
Something is definitely wrong. I hit the wall button and it started to raise, then went through a cycle of up/down/half up/half down etc. This continued until I hit the button again and it went back down. I unplugged it for a few minutes and plugged it back in, but it has battery backup. I’m going to wait a while and try again.
It sounds like it could be the wall button itself. Is it sticking or is the wiring loose, corroded at either end?
I have one clicker and one remote keypad. I pulled batteries out of both. I just plugged unit back in and ran an up and down cycle without incident. I’m going to wait for a bit and then replace batteries in the remotes. I think it may be a failing battery in either the clicker or keypad.
No success. I check the wires on the wall button and everything looks clean. I still need to check the top of the actual unit.
Just to be sure I would disconnect any wall button wiring, cut and expose frech wire, then reconnect. Visually inspect the wire’s length for any spots it might be pinched.
If the cause isn’t apparent, try disconnecting the button wires at the overhead controller terminals and leaving the wall button disconnected for a while, does the problem with the door continue even with it disconnected?
Do you have a wireless fob that might have gotten wet? Gone through the wash?
I have disconnected all learned devices (myQ device, clickers, car, and keypad). Problem seems to have stopped. I’m now adding them one by one and waiting a few hours in between.
Oddly when I went to add the first device, I couldn’t get the opener in learn mode. I had to disconnect the battery, unplug, and replug. I’m also going to replace the backup battery, just in case.
Power cycle may have been necessary before re-adding in this case. Let us know if you are able to pinpoint the device causing the issue.
