PG9945 - Learning it in as something other than door/window

Hi. I saw the post about using the PG9945 with a heat sensor, and the instructions said it would be learned in as a fire zone. Curious - does that happen automatically because it ‘sees’ the System Sensor attached or is that manually selected?

I ask because I just added a PG9945 to my system connected to a float switch and wanted it to be of type “water” sensor, but it complained it was an incompatible type ? Wondering if I need to try that again. Note that I was using the IQ Installer app at the time.

Right now that float switch is in as a door/window because it was the only thing I could get to work.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

When learning in a PG9945, it will automatically learn in as a door window sensor on the reed switch.

To learn it in as a type “Water”:

  1. Change sensor input to either Normally Open, Normally Closed, or End-of-Line
  2. Change Sensor Type to Water
  3. Optional - You can change Sensor Group to 25 - Water Non-Reporting

Thank you

That’s exactly what I did, and it wouldn’t save. It gave me an error.

I just tried it again.

Note I’m using the IQ Installer App.
In IQ installer, once I save the settings I get this “Invalid Value” error:

So, I exited the IQ Installer app, and did this config direct on the IQ 4, and there it DOES work and will allow me to save it.

So, I suppose this is a problem in the IQ Installer app?

Thanks for your help.
I didn’t even try direct on the IQ since I never thought the Installer app could be the issue.

Normally PowerG sensors have limited options to select for the sensor type since the 3 digit prefix of the TXID informs the panel what kind of sensor it is.

For the sensors with a wired input you should be able to select a wider variety of options so that the sensor can properly act as a transmitter. I haven’t tried setting one up that way in the IQ Installer app, only on the panel.

Thanks for the feedback, we’ll let Qolsys know the IQ Installer app is not allowing that change.
