PG9914 sensitivity

Recently added a PG9914 motion detector to my system but I’m not sure how to get it setup optimally. I bought this for the pet feature, but ended up needing to remove the pet mask in order to have it pick up human motion.

Is there a good chance that my 50lb dog can set this off without the pet mask on? Does anyone have any other tips for using this motion detector effectively with a pet? I’ve also noticed that even with the pet mask off it takes quite a bit of motion to set it off but at the same time I’ve had some difficulty testing it properly given that there seems to be some limit to how often it can be triggered.

Thanks

For pet immunity the mask needs to be installed. If you remove the pet mask there is no pet immunity expected.

If you are testing testing normal operation/alarm activation, stay out of view of the detector for at least 3 minutes before trying to trip the sensor by moving into field of view.

If having trouble, can you post a photo of the sensor where it is installed?

Late to the party/this thread but can confirm what the other user experienced. I installed two PG9914s in two rooms and just realized yesterday that they weren’t actually triggering for 99% of movement. They were both installed (with pet filter) in rooms about 18x18 in a corner at about 7’ (the manual says 7.8ish is the max height the pet filter can be used) and short of going up to it and waving my hand right in front of it, nothing triggered them. After much experimenting I found they trigger if I install them closer to 6’, 6.5’ being about the max for any type of reliability. I also (and obviously this is not supported/can’t be condoned officially) filed the pet filters down by about .25mm (they started about 1.37ish mm thick since they clearly just are a slight IR filter. I had extras and also a 3d printer to make more if need be but so far with them installed about about 6.25’ they are finally picking up most of the room.

What I can say is that I used that device for a couple months with a medium size dog and no pet filter. The dog never set it off. I did pretty extensive testing to ensure I wouldn’t get any false alarms. Even if I crawl around the floor on hands and knees it does not get triggered. It’s installed at the recommended height.

Would you mind posting a front and profile photo of the sensor where it is installed on the wall?

Where I have it now that works or where I had it before that didn’t?

Where it is now. It helps to have a visual reference for testing and comparing results.
