Overly sensitive motion detector

I have a motion detector that seems to be overly sensitive and I think is detecting my 3 10lb cats chasing each other up and down the stairs in my foyer. Trying to figure out the best way to counter this. It’s a Honeywell 5800PIR 345 MHz hooked up to an IQ Panel 2+.

Cats are tough. They tend to climb and get to places that a motion detector pet immunity can’t avoid. However, the first thing to determine is if that model has pet immunity.

There are a few versions of the 5800PIR:

5800PIR-RES - 80lb pet immune
5800PIR - either no immunity or 80lb
5800PIR-COM - no immunity

It’s likely you have the 5800PIR-RES, but it is good to double check.

The motion detector must be mounted between 7 and 9 feet up on the wall. If it is lower than that you may see more false alarms.

If you are pretty certain that a specific spot where the cats play is the problem, moving the motion detector so that that area is out of view is the best test. Are you able to do this and still capture the rest of the area you are trying to cover?
