Overhead door sensor

I’m having a problem with a sensor on an overhead door. There is some movement due to wind that is causing false alarms. Any suggestions? Its a 2 gig edge panel but its an older door contact that I have connected via a take module. Thank you

Hello,

There should be a magnet and a sensor somewhere on the overhead that need to be adjusted a little so it can aligned correctly with each other. It could be that, or it could be an old magnet loosing its strength.

Why did my sensor cause a false alarm?

Door/Window Contact False Alarms Are the sensor and magnet properly aligned? Each sensor has a magnetic gap distance, the maximum distance from the sensor for the magnet to reliably hold the circuit shut. If installed near the edge of that gap the sensor can open more easily, causing false alarms. Sensors typically have an arrow or other marking identifying where the reed switch is found. Thanks for the tips. The magnet is properly aligned with the sensor but when there is any wind at all it allows the door to move just enough to trigger the sensor. I’m thinking they may have to call the overhead door company out to adjust the door.

Would you happen to know what kind of sensor it would be? Floor sensors should be wide gaps and handle about 2 1/2 inches or so. If it moves more than that then you could install a rail mount sensor at different position with less movement or have your garage door company out and adjust the door.
