Newbie question on AP-5 access controller programming with ACT-34B controllers

Hi there -

Anyone ever had to re-map the buttons of an ACT-34B wireless transmitter in a Linear AP5?

The mfg instructions give five button options but doesn’t specify which buttons on the ACT-34B they are referring to (not QUITE true; they use general directions like LEFT button, Right Button etc…but not clear which is up and down on an ACT-34B in their way of thinking about it.)

Its an existing system with a whole bunch of fobs already programmed into the AP-5 so am not keen to mess it up (its for a garage door opener on a high-rise).

WHy am I asking about re-assigning buttons, you ask? Well…there is some weird behavior happening where pressing the smaller grey button triggers another nearby AP-5 as well as opening the garage door. Not even sure if its possible to confuse the AP-5 to open both relays K1 and K2 from messing around with it, but it appears a previous property manager might have done just this (not clear, so not blaming anyone specific!).

Any advice will be much appreciated!

PS. A second related q: We ordered a bunch of ACT-34Bs recently and it appears this latest batch has a separate serial number associated with each button. This is great for security but, do you happen to know if its possible for both the older existing fobs (with only a single serial number for ALL the fob’s buttons) can co-exist with these newer fobs with separate serial numbers for each button, or do we have to replace ALL the fobs with the newer style for it to work?

Hello,

While we only support alarm.com products, I did look into it a bit.

The AP-5 looks like it has two different relays on it. Based on the AP-5 instructions, the default setup is the left button trips relay one and the right button trips relay 2. The open and close depends on the wiring with the gate. As for the buttons programming, it looks like they can be modified to control different relays based on programming option 5 on the programming manual. If there are more than two buttons then this is where you can also program them.

If it is on a separate AP5, then there isn’t much you can do but replace the ones that open that garage door
