I’m using a TL880 (AT&T) with a DSC Neo system. Are both communication paths (cellular and Ethernet/IP) monitored so that I will get an alert if either goes down? If so, how should I test this?
Hello,
Happy to help!
Yes. The TL880 supports Dual-Path communication, which uses both cellular and broadband/Ethernet to communicate with Alarm.com. This provides redundancy, so if one communication path becomes unavailable, the system can continue communicating over the other path.
You can test the two paths separately by temporarily disconnecting the Ethernet cable from the TL880 and performing a communication test to verify the cellular connection. After reconnecting the Ethernet cable, you can then verify that the broadband connection is communicating normally.
The TL880 also has status LEDs that can help identify communication issues. The L2 LED indicates broadband-related errors, while the L3 and L4 LEDs provide information about cellular communication and signal strength.
If either communication path fails while the other remains available, Alarm.com should report the corresponding Dual-Path communication failure. For example, a loss of the cellular path will generate a Dual-Path Communication Failure – Cellular condition, while the system can continue communicating over the broadband connection.
If you’d like to test both paths, we recommend testing one at a time so you can confirm that each communication path is working independently.
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thank you!
