Moving from Reliant

I have a z-wave (2gig) system throughout my house with some older wired sensors. I also have 3 T2000 thermostats (which I don’t love). It currently does not interact with my security system, but I also have Lutron Radio Ra2 throughout my house. It would be nice if those interacted.

I would like to leave reliant, add smoke sensors, switch to the new GC3, and possibly add some outdoor cameras. If possible, I would also like a sensor on a gate for my driveway. For a noob, how do I start this process?

Hi! Happy to help!

If you are planning on using a new alarm panel, there wouldn’t be anything really standing in the way of a switch. You could get your new system and a 4G LTE communicator and get started with your desired service plan.

For the equipment you have described, including cameras, I would recommend the Surety Complete plan.

However, the plan you choose up front can just support what you want to use right away. With Surety you are never locked into a plan. Through your System Manager (accessible with an active subscription) you can adjust your service plan and features at any time exactly when you want to.

The Surety Home and Surety Complete plans include support for Lutron Radio Ra2.

Surety Complete would be best for when you add outdoor cameras because it includes advanced video analytics options to filter out nuisance recordings due to environmental effects like rain, lighting, bugs, etc.

I’m guessing my current panel and communicator is locked to Reliant?

In most cases an Alarm.com communicator is only “locked” while registered to an Alarm.com account. Once the account is cancelled, the module can typically be reused.

As of June 2019, this is only true of 4G LTE modules. Older 3G modules cannot be used to activate service because of the impending 3G service sunset.

Do you have a 3G or 4G module? Feel free to post an image of the module in the panel if there are any questions!
