With the GC3, can i put a motion detector (well protected under a covered patio- I know it’s not recommended and not exterior rated) and have it notify me on alarm.com only when the system is armed but not have it set the alarm off? So that if someone is walking around out back where they shouldn’t be I can look at the cameras and see what’s going on? Again I would only want it to notify me when the system is armed. Thanks!

Notifications cannot currently be filtered by arming status, but we have requested this as a feature.
In order to use a motion detector outdoors, regardless of being covered, humidity and temperature will cause false alarm concerns as well as possible damage, so only motion detectors rated for outdoor use should be put outside.
The Honeywell 5800PIROD is a good option, but a bit pricey.
