Motion sensors near doors and Away Instant Motion

I have a few places in my home where a motion sensor is placed in the corner of a wall that a door sits on. I have these sensors configured as “Away Instant Motion”.

How does the IQ4 Panel handle the timing of these events. Is it possible when I open the door from returning home the motion sensor signal may “beat” the door sensor signal to the panel and make my panel alarm?

It shouldn’t. If it did then it’s not working as the manual says it does. Has that happened to you?

Typically no, not as you described the layout. It is not an impossible situation, depending on the door sensor model, placement, and how quickly you open the door, but I only recall ever seeing odd behavior like that with the motion detector facing the door directly.

I had this happen a few times with a similar setup, the motion sensor is in the corner by the front entry door.

My front door is hardwired and at the time was going through a 16-F hardware translator. The translator was installed in a location that had signal issues reaching the panel occasionally, so what would happen was the front door opening signal would be delayed, while the wireless motion sensor had no signal problems, so it would report immediately. Depending on how delayed the front door signal was and how quickly you’d come through the door, sometimes the alarm would trigger on that motion before it registered the door opening.

This was the original installation my old alarm company did, I have since replaced and relocated a few pieces (swapped the 16-F for the PowerG translator, and relocated the panel to be in a better location) and now it all works as it should.

Short version: if you don’t have any signal problems that delay the door opening registering on the panel you should be fine.

Yeah, this was my exact question. My door is hardwired going through a PG9WLSHW8. I’ll heck signal and, worst case, set my motion to two event trigger to try and prevent this!

I’ve not had any issues since switching to that model hardwire translator. All of the hardwire events happen immediately, so I wouldn’t worry about it unless it has happened to you already or you’re seeing delays on hardwire events. The PowerG stuff is much better signal wise than the older s-line stuff.
