Motion Detector Armed During Stay Mode

I have a 2GIG Panel. How can I set a motion detector to trigger in armed stay mode and then be bypassed when needed? For an area not visited during arming stay normally?

2GIG does not have a dedicated Interior Follower Zone Type to be active on Stay and Away.

To effectively use a motion in both Stay and Away, you could simply program the Zone as perimeter. Keep in mind this will no longer follow delay countdowns, so if this motion would be triggered after opening an Entry Delay sensor before reaching a point to disarm the system, that will not work.

Bypass would need to be manual each time.

That’s an intriguing question. Can you bypass a sensor from the panel easily when arming?

Security - Menu - ToolBox - Master Code - Bypass

It isn’t quite as fluid, but if need be you can bypass that sensor individually prior to arming. It remains bypassed until you manually remove the bypass or the arming state changes.

You can force bypass zones while open, but considering this is a motion detector, battery operated, there is no reliable way of “leaving it open”

I wouldn’t typically recommend doing this but in this unique scenario you might make use of it:

With a keyfob and a wired motion detector you could physically bypass a zone with the fourth button.

You would need a wire run from the motion detector to the panel. Use the HW1 input and GND.

Then you could use a short jumper wire from HW1 to the Open Collector terminal.

Otherwise disable the open collector output in programming (Q78: Disabled).

Program Keyfob Key 4 Output: Toggle Output.

You would then have a a wired sensor circuit you could physically short closed at any time with the 4th button on the keyfob. There is no indicator for this on the panel though, so you would just have to know the state, or use the other HW2 terminal to rig a Zwave light to also turn on for a minute or something when you short the sensor.

Can you set the motion detectors to be entry/exit 1 Sensor Type that way they would be armed even in Stay mode and if you happen to wonder around the house at night it would give you a chip and give you 30 seconds to disarm the system before an alarm is sound?

I know that it is not ideal since it would give the burglar 30 seconds before an alarm is sound but the benefit is that the motion detectors would be armed even in Stay mode and not immediately triggered if a house member happens to get up and wonder through the house without disarming the system.

While you can program them as entry exit (or perimeter), we would typically recommend not doing so.

Panel programming for a Zone determines how the panel will behave when that zone is tripped. You can program any sensor as most any zone type, however the specific zones types intended for the type of sensor you are using should typically be followed.
