Monitor Gate Sensor on a Schedule

Is it possible to monitor 1 or more sensors on a schedule? I need my gate to not trigger alarm during day since I never know what day the landscaper will be here but would like to get notifications if opened during the day. At night I would like the gate to trigger alarm if opened. Is this possible?

The short answer would be no.

You cannot schedule a sensor to change zone type. Panel programming determines the system’s reaction to a sensor being opened. This cannot be scheduled. Sensor alarm activation is determined by Arming status, not time of day.

The long answer would be sort of.

Depending the level of interest and need, this can be accomplished, but it would take a bit of a work-around.

To accomplish having a sensor which provides notification but not alarm during the day and alarm signals at night you would need two timer relays, two wired sensors, and two wireless transmitters (or the wired contact sensors hardwired all the way to the panel)

If you had a timer relay which shorted the alarm sensor (perimeter) circuit during the day and a timer relay which shorted the notification sensor (no response type) circuit during the night, you would then effectively have a gate which reacts the way you described. The wired sensors and timer relays would be wired in parallel to the transmitters.

This would result in notifications whenever you want, and alarm signals when the system is armed, but only at night.

I have a rule that will send me a notification when my front door is opened. That same sensor will trigger an alarm if the system is armed…

Yes, but note the OP is asking to have the Alarm only go off at night. This can only be done by either only arming at night, or by the work-around above.

Thanks for your response. So I would have the first door sensor just for notifications and the 2nd door sensor when connected and system is armed, would trigger alarm and if relay is open, it would short that door sensor.

So if I didn’t do a timer relay on the first door sensor, I would just basically have 2 gate sensors say open on GC3 panel at night and only one during day?

Can you recommend a timer relay that would work for this?

Lets say that I don’t care about notifications during the day, could this sensor be used only in armed stay mode? I looked in the panel and didn’t see a group that looked like it would do this but I am still learning the panel?

Thanks

Something like this may work for your clock timer relay. Looks like it has two programmable relays, so you would only need one it appears.

No, there is no zone type for this.

I would urge some caution regarding setting a gate sensor as an alarm sensor in general. Depending on the gate and how securely in latches, false alarms can be very likely. If you feel the gate is secure and would like to use a sensor as an alarm sensor that only arms at night, the relay method is probably best, considering you will likely also want to arm during the day.

If you do not use motion detectors I suppose you could set the gate as an interior follower, then only arm Away at night. But this would be a manual solution whereas the timer relay would automatically control whether the zone can open and you would otherwise not need to adjust how you use the system.

Thank you for the advice. I will change the gate sensor to just notify.

I have disabled sensor reports and sensor supervised in the panel but the alarm has been triggered 3 times by landscaper with those settings. What am I missing?

I don’t want it to trigger alarm but would like to ding when gate is opened.

Sensor reports and supervision should remain enabled. Reports governs whether the sensor’s activity is forwarded to ADC at all, and supervision is a routine check in signal from sensor to panel.

To program the sensor to never trip an alarm but allow for chimes and notifications through Alarm.com you want to program its sensor type, the first option for it in programming, as (23) No Response Type.

ah thank you. I will change the setting.
