Migration from 2GIG GC2 to IQ – Power & Sensor Transfer Questions

Hi Surety,

I recently purchased a house with a 2GIG GC2 system (3G module) and am considering migrating to an IQ panel with Surety. The wiring on my GC2 setup is fairly simple—I only see connections for the buzzer and power among the 8 pins.

I have a few questions regarding the transition:

  1. Powering the IQ Panel: Can I use the existing wiring from the DSC charger to power the IQ panel? Rewiring the power connection would be a major challenge.
  2. Sensor Migration: Can I transfer my existing sensors without access to the installer code for the current unit?
  3. Service Fees: Does the Surety service fee include the subscription cost for the wireless module?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Powering the IQ Panel: Can I use the existing wiring from the DSC charger to power the IQ panel? Rewiring the power connection would be a major challenge.

Existing wiring can typically be reused as long as it is not too thin or too long. You would connect the new IQ Panel plug in power supply in place of the existing 2GIG one. The IQ Panel should never be powered off of any other power source.

The IQ Panel 4 stipulates a max of 98.5 feet using 18AWG cable. You can double up conductors to effectively thicken the wire too if extra wires are present. (2 wires for + and 2 for -)

Sensor Migration: Can I transfer my existing sensors without access to the installer code for the current unit?

The old panel is not required at all. You can just pair sensors to the new panel. Make sure to choose the 345Mhz version of the IQ Panel for compatibility with your 2GIG sensors.

Service Fees: Does the Surety service fee include the subscription cost for the wireless module?

I think you are referencing the cellular communicator right? Yes, the plan pricing includes the cellular communication costs.

Thanks, Jason. I’ve found that IQ unit comes with desktop stand and am considering putting it on desk and leaving the old unit unpowered.

I have a few more questions regarding desk placement and hub vs. panel.

  1. I might relocate the unit time to time, unplugging for a few mins. Would it alarm monitoring crew?
  2. I will use surety alarm plan for now, without video. Can I still access camera in hub via app?
  3. Using two way voice, can I talk to home from outside using app?
  4. Anything else I should consider to choose between hub and panel?

The signal will be sent but will not be responded to as if it was an alarm.

The IQ4 Panel camera will be able to upload images to your app and whenever there is an alarm, it can record a video that you can watch on the panel

Two way audio would only be available to compatible cameras and doorbells. Two way voice on the panel is if there is an alarm, you can talk to the monitoring station through the panel.

The IQ Panel 4 with a 345 radio can also handle PowerG devices, it has a built in camera, has the 2 way audio with the monitoring station, and premium audio. If you’re not interested in any of these features, then the IQ4 Hub will work just fine for you.

Thanks, surety team. I decided to go for IQ panel 345 version. I would like to add fire detector to my attached garage with non electric car. Which do you recommend to get from product page?

Smoke detectors wouldn’t be recommended for a garage but 345Mhz and PowerG heat detectors are available.

The Honeywell 5809SS isn’t sold on our store but would be an option.
If you have an IQ Panel 4 the PG9936H here is another.
