I’m working through an issue with my 2GIG GC3 System. I have a hardwired systems that was converted with a takeover module years ago. A few weeks back I started to get low battery alerts on my wired zone. Looking at the forums it seemed that the system backup battery was likely the issue. I replaced it and am still seeing the issue. After I initially replaced it I would get low battery when opening the door but just got the same original issue. What do you recommend next? Thanks!
Just to clarify, if you see low battery condition reported on the sensor zones connected to a 2GIG-TAKE-345 hardwired to wireless translator, the battery that is low would be the 12VDC brick battery connected to the TAKE, which looks like the one below:
If you replace this battery and the status doesn’t go away, reboot your panel. Does the status come back?
If the low battery keeps being reported after the 12VDC battery has been replaced then the issue may ultimately be the power supply and charging circuit connected to the battery.
The old alarm panel or a separate power supply with battery circuit like the Altronix AL624 is used to charge the battery. If that power supply is not working for some reason (has its wall plug unplugged, loose or broken wires, hardware failure) then the battery would be draining as soon as it is connected and there would be nothing recharging it.
I am not seeing an active low battery alert on your sensors currently. Is the problem intermittent?
Yes - that is the battery I replaced. The issue has been intermittent for the last 2-3 weeks. Let me see what happens now with the battery replaced. The low battery went away overnight but I expect it will comeback.
If it does comeback, what would the next troubleshooting step be?
Are you using an old alarm panel battery circuit or are you using a separate power supply?
Double check the plug in transformer feeding power that it is plugged in and not using a switched outlet. If the outlet is switched that might explain the intermittent nature.
Unplug the transformer and check for loose wires. Check for loose wires at the power supply or old alarm panel board, whichever is charging the battery.
Make sure the battery circuit wires from the power supply connecting to the battery terminals are not loose.
Ok thanks. The outlet is not switched and this has been working fine for many years. If this issue comes back I’ll start looking at the items you recommend.
