Lost broadband connection

Hi, the other day, my wife called me to tell me our GC3 was beeping. She sent me a picture and it showed that the panel lost broadband connection. It never alerted me via the ADC app - should it have?

Anyway, the alert went away (I will check again to make sure it isn’t still showing an alert), but I have noticed that the arming/disarming via the app has gone back to the same delay it had before the broadband connection. Once I updated the firmware and connected via WiFi, that delay went away and arming/disarming was almost instant.

Can you ping my panel to see if it has a broadband connection?

Thanks,
David

No, broadband backup failure is not a separate alert in Alarm.com. This alert will be shown on your panel. We’ve requested this be added to configurable alerts in ADC

Pings do not currently respond. You can test your network on your panel by going to System Settings - Installer Code - Installer Toolbox - Network Test.

Which of the three tests fail? (red)

I would recommend setting the GC3 with a static IP rather than getting one auto-assigned via dhcp. Go into Network Settings - Wireless. Select the network you are using and switch from auto to manual. You’ll need to manually enter the network info.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for the info. I did a Network Test and the LAN test passed, but INTERNET and BACKEND failed. I then switched to static IP and assigned all the same settings that were originally assigned via DHCP. I ran the test again and LAN and INTERNET passed, but BACKEND failed. I waited a moment and ran the test again and that time, all three passed.

I will set the static IP in the router as well to prevent any potential IP conflicts.

Yes, a configurable alert in ADC for broadband failure would be very helpful.

Would you mind pinging my panel again to see if it responds now? Thank you!

The ping is now successful. Note that the “Backend” test in network tests is a back-end Alarm.com ping which confirms connection.

We’ve noticed that this type of error seems to happen intermittently when the DHCP lease expires. We’ve submitted to 2GIG but for now, switching to static IP should avoid the issue.

As a follow up, GC3 firmware 3.1.1 is now available and states improvements to wifi. Download link and notes are available here.

Thank you, Jason. I upgraded to 3.1.1 and then later that day, I got the ‘dual band communication failure’ message. It has not yet been restored. What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks,
David

I would try going into wireless settings on the GC3 and forgetting the network, then reconnecting. System Settings > Network Settings > Wireless. Tap your network name and type in network key if prompted. Select forget network.

Back out and power cycle the panel. Now that you are on 3.1.1, boot up and head back into Network settings and wireless and configure your network, using “Auto” to have an IP address assigned via dhcp.

Thank you, Jason. I will give that a try. Is there an easier way to reboot the panel than removing the battery and unplugging?

On the GC3 that is how you would want to perform the power cycle.

Ok…last time I did that, I think it set an alarm off. Can you post the proper procedure for rebooting? Thanks!!

Ensure your panel is disarmed. Opening the panel while armed will cause a tamper alarm.

Unplug Transformer, Open Panel and unplug battery. Wait a minute, then plug in battery, close up panel and plug in transformer.

Perfect!! Thank you.
