I am looking for a way to only have one doorbell button visible on the outside of my house, but have 2 door bell systems activate. One is in an Nutone intercom (http://www.nutone.com/products/product/7f18bb66-1b77-4bcd-a184-41c6ee2f9d70) that has a hardwired doorbell, the other is the 2Gig Doorbell
I want to do this so as to be alerted via text message when someone rings my doorbell.
If it cant be done with the 2 Gig Doorbell, can it be done with a window contact using the external wires?
How?
I’m not very familiar with the Nutone systems, but it looks like the door speaker linked would require a master controller in the home, and this is what you might be able to use for integration. If there are any contact closure outputs on the control panel, (maybe for electric door lock release, etc.) you could use one with a DW10 and the wired input.
Do you have the model number of the control station?
IMA-4406
Here is the manual http://www.manualguru.com/nutone/ima4406/users-manual
really appreciate the help!
Not seeing an easy way to do this with what is there except adding a low voltage relay.
You could probably wire in a relay between controller and intercom, use the voltage to drive the relay dry contact, which in turn trips the DW10.
You would want to test with a multimeter, but it looks like the intercom voltage when the button is pressed for communication is 3 Vdc roughly. This relay may fit the bill.
Spoke to Nutone. They said to not add anything to their system or modify it electrically as it will create damage.
I think I may explore going “caveman” on this. I am thinking of sticking the 2GIG door bell over the Nutone button. Maybe use VHB tape on just the actual doorbell button? This way when you push the one button the other one gets mechanically pushed as well
Think this will work? Will it hold with that little of surface area (only the actual button will provide a sticking surface area). Will I be able to change the batteries in the future without ripping the 2GIG doorbell module off?
I’m having trouble picturing how this would work.
So the nutone button is not recessed, and would activate when pushed flush with the nutone unit facade?
Mounting will be the tricky part. The doorbell isn’t heavy, so it might work.
Ok here is my mod.
The problem is that there is a square cutout on the back of the doorbell right in the center. I stretched a piece of 3M VHB tape across and stuck it on. It held, but somewhat flimsy as it was mostly tape and no hard plastic making contact.
I went to home depot and bought a thin piece of sheet aluminum for 2 dollars. I cust it with sheers and bent it to make a bracket so that it would have surface area for the tape to stick to. It just barely covers the existing button.
Only the 2 gig rings which is OK. I can still use the intercom and I have 2 extra TS1’s so the chime goes through the house.
The only thing I dont like is that the 2Gig is bright white and my house is an off white.
Do you think I can paint the doorbell housing?
It would be nice if 2 Gig made that cutout round to fit over existing doorbell buttons instead of square. Lots of people have existing doorbells and they could market this as it goes over your existing and people will probably be more likely to try

Paint would void warranty, but I would think it would be fine otherwise.

It is a standard doorbell in and of itself. Meant to replace the bell. The momentary button connects the screw terminals inside which can be wired to your existing bell.
