Long Range Issues

I have an outdoor gate a considerable distance away from my alarm panel. I bought an outdoor Power G sensor and a RE524X repeater which seems to reach the panel ok, but I am getting odd signals from the sensor. The sensor frequently claims tamper is occurring when it is not; I seem to be getting a tamper signal rather than a door-open signal. Wondering if this is possibly due to weak signal? Or perhaps I set up the repeater wrong? Can the signal from the repeater be improved by adding a second repeater to extend the first?

The RE524X does not work with PowerG sensors. It is compatible with DSC 433Mhz sensors, not PowerG.

Roughly how far away is the gate from the panel?

What model of PowerG sensor is being used? Is it the PG9312?

If it is the PG9312, are you using the built in reed switch or are you using the wired input?

One caveat from the PG9312 manual which may be relevant: Once the battery cover is removed, a tamper message is transmitted to the panel. Subsequent removal of the battery prevents transmission of the TAMPER RESTORE alert, leaving the receiver in permanent alert. To avoid this, press the tamper switch when you remove the battery.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my inquiry. The distance is maybe 50 yards, but through several walls and one story to get to the main panel. The extender is in the room closest to the gate, but it still must pass through one wall and decent distance to an all-metal gate. Yes, it is a PowerG PG9312. The setup does seem to work to some extent, but perhaps the issue is that it was not meant to work with the extender? It seems to be receiving signals, but reporting the wrong ones. Is there a repeater that does work for the PowerG devices and IQ Panel?

I am using the built-in switch. I regularly receive tamper and end-of-tamper notifications, so I don’t think it is stuck in permanent alarm.

To clarify, the RE524X does not impact or help PowerG signals. It cannot receive or repeat them. The signals your panel is receiving are directly from the sensor.

On the RE524X the DSC setting on the sensor dial is for 433Mhz unencrypted sensors, not PowerG.

PowerG sensors have a roughly 2000 ft open air signal range between the IQ Panel 2+ or IQ Panel 4 and the sensor. The distance you described should be fine, but a large metal surface like an all metal gate can cause issues with any RF sensors.

A PG9920 repeater is available, but generally isn’t required.

The sensor has both a front and back tamper alarm. Would you mind posting a photo of that sensor from the front and side so that we can best assist?
