How will I be alerted when the battery on my Z-Wave lock is low? I have a Z-Wave lock on my Qolsys IQ panel and it works well, but I am concerned that the lock battery may run low and I will not be alerted. Please advise.
Also, at what specific battery level is the low battery alert notification triggered? Each brand of lock has a different battery percentage that’s “low,” so it seems like this level should be configurable by the user.
Finally, why is the lock battery level visible only on the Alarm.com web interface, but not the iPhone app? Does Alarm.com plan to improve the iPhone app by enabling users to view the battery level of their Z-Wave lock?
Notifications are configurable in your account. Log into the Alarm.com website and under the “System Actions to Watch” notification in your account, low battery alerts are one of the optional causes for notification.
Selected recipients and methods at the bottom will receive the alert.
The lock battery levels are a Z-wave status, determined at the lock itself. Setting an arbitrarily higher or lower threshold is not possible as they will have their own internal determination of when batteries are nearing end of life based on its own power draw requirements.
Much of the philosophy behind the app is to give a portal to perform actions quickly and clearly, while allowing notifications to handle the infrequent occurrences like low batteries. We are happy to make feature requests however, and will forward this to Alarm.com reps as a requested addition to the app locks page.
