Linking alarm.com personal account to work account

We had an alarm.com commercial system installed at my employer’s office last week and the installer was telling me that since I have an alarm.com system at home that I can link the 2 systems together so I don’t have to switch logins on the mobile app. I watched surety’s video and it looks pretty simple.

My question is that the installer had mentioned to be careful to add one account to the other and not the other way around else it would give cooworkers access to my personal system, is this true? If so can you advise on which is the best way to do this? It seems like a silly design if that’s true since the reverse would be me giving everyone in my personal system access to my work which I also can’t do so I have to assume he was mistaken right?

Lastly, if I do link systems can I reverse the changes easily? If so then it wouldn’t be a big deal to experiment. Sorry there just isn’t much info around about linking systems.

Thanks!

Alarm.com Multi-System-Access will allow you to set up one login which has access to both accounts via a menu in the app/website so that you do not need to log out and log back in. This links logins together, not the whole account. You are in effect sharing the login access rights for one set of credentials with another.

The only way you would be giving anyone else access is if they use the same login credentials as you, which you should never do. It is always best to create unique logins for users if they should have access to Alarm.com functions on a system, especially in a commercial setting as this allows a proper audit of activity.

If your employer’s system was instead installed and setup to have many users sharing one account login with you, you would want to give your home login access to the work login, not the other way around. In this case you would login to your home account and add the work account under Multi-System Access.

You could then use your home credentials to access work, but not the other way around.

Yes, you can remove system links by logging into Alarm.com and navigating to Settings - Login Information - Multi-System Access. Click the trash icon to delete the link.

Jason, thank you. I have this working now thanks to your extremely thorough response. I think the installer at my work must have been telling me to take precaution about how I linked my accounts because at the time they just had us setup with a single master account and we hadn’t created individual logins yet, but we have now so that’s no longer an issue. Hope this post helps someone like me in the future!

Yes, they were assuming you might share credentials with multiple people. Glad we could be of assistance! Let us know if you have any other questions.
