Lawn Irrigation

Before I started this thread, I searched, “irrigation” then, “lawn” and found no results…

I’m looking at creating lawn irrigation with 9 or 10 zones. In my research, I have found two options, 1) EtherRain8, or 2) individual zwave valves (expensive).

Do you have any experience with lawn irrigation, and if so, what do you recommend for the budget-minded? Do you know of any other zwave controllers? I am wanting a timer AND zwave controls. A seperate rain gauge is a plus. Jeremy

I’m not terribly familiar with irrigation systems and using Zwave to operate them. However, I have used a single standard Zwave appliance plug in module to operate an irrigation system. However, this doesn’t sound like something that would be terribly helpful for you because it’s an all or nothing system. Either all the sprinkler heads are going or none of them are operating.

That being said, I did find a 2-part video on YouTube that discusses the pros and cons between EtherRain, Irrigation Caddie, and Zwave devices to create an automated irrigation system. The videos can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F97-6HJvyg4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OEwseLISDc

His setup doesn’t appear to be the neatest way to set up a system, but it does seem to work, at least according to the creator of the video.

If I come up with any more ideas or hear anything else about Zwave irrigation options, I’ll be sure to post it here.

I just got an update from Alarm.com. They are currently working to integrate with a sprinkler system, but at the moment don’t have a timeline as to when that may be. The representative I spoke with said that he hoped to have something going before summer’s end, but couldn’t guarantee anything.

I know it’s only been a month and a half but wanted to see if you had heard any update on this?

I’m not aware of any updates on Alarm.com sprinkler support.
