Key fob failure?

I have a PG9929 key fob which is rarely used, and I just realized recently that pressing keys do not light LEDs on it. OK, probably dead battery, but I tried 3 different fresh CR2032 batteries and none of them would cause LEDs to light up when I press the buttons. What is strange is that in the process of putting in any of these batteries (including the original), I will see the LEDs flicker blue just as I am beginning to insert the battery. But light activity goes completely dead as I push in the battery the rest of the way. Yes, I am putting them in with the + polarity on top as indicated. I cannot test the key fob from the panel because the IQ panel 2+ it was enrolled in died first, and now I am rebuilding on an IQ panel 4 I recently received from surety.

This all makes me wonder whether the fob itself is faulty rather than just a dead battery issue. This would be a bit disappointing as I only purchased the key fob about a year ago. A quick search reveals a review on Amazon that reports a similar experience with a failed PG9929 key fob.

My question: Is there anything else you could suggest I try to revive the key fob or does it sound like replacement is necessary?

Press and Hold the * key. Does the LED light?

Typically on a keyfob just pressing the keys does not send a signal, you must hold them for a second (on the PG9929 the panic function requires 3 seconds)

If not, and those are fresh batteries, you’ll likely need a replacement.

Sorry it’s been so long I forgot about needing to hold the button down! Indeed it’s working fine when I do. Thanks much for the response!
