Issue with MyQ Gateway and Alarm.com

Trying to add garage door sensor and have been problems. It is a 3rd party garage door opener attached to a MyQ gateway. Had a number of errors, finally reset the MyQ gateway but now I do not get the option to add a 3rd party garage door MyQ setup. I can only pick the wall switch or garage door with built-in MyQ as options. The 3rd option has disappeared.

Currently, your MyQ wifi hub (821lm) is showing a malfunction error. It will need to be removed from your account and then re-added in order for it to function properly. Commands can be sent in order to remove this device, then you can re add it.

Please let us know if you would like it to be removed. Note that commands can only be sent during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.

Please remove it from my account so I can re-add it.

That you for confirming. We have sent a command to remove it. Please allow a few minutes for that to complete and then you should be able to re-add.

I need it removed again. It did it but this time I put GW in the serial number field which shouldn’t be in there. I tried yesterday without the GW and just the number and it had the same error. I’ll try it one more time with the serial number for the gateway but I’m not sure why it failed the first time around.

To clarify: right now we see the Chamberlain Gateway connected properly to your account. There are no malfunctions listed and it should be ready to connect a device. I’m happy to remove it again if need be, I just want to make sure what the error is that you are seeing currently because it doesn’t look like the issue would be with the Gateway.

Are you unable to add a garage door to the gateway?

It sounds like the gateway was added but it errored out saying there was a problem communicating or linking with the garage door opener. When it goes through the steps where it’s supposed to sending and learning a code to move the actual garage door, it fails. You probably see it as a device in the dealer screen because it has paired but it never completes the setup.

Please remove it one more time. I’ll make sure the serial number is right. If this fails, I’m not sure what to do. I’m following these instructions: https://suretyhome.com/wp-content/uploads/LiftMaster_MyQ_Garage_Universal_Retrofit_InstallGuide_EN.docx.pdf

We’ve sent a command to remove the Gateway.

Just to be sure, here are the steps to follow from the manual:

  1. Under LiftMaster Devices select “Add Gateway” and enter the Wi-Fi
Hub’s serial number. (The serial number can be found at the back of the
Hub below the barcode.) Please wait patiently as this process may take
    several minutes.
  2. After a few minutes, the page should show the LiftMaster Gateway in the
    equipment list.
  3. Select “Add Device” for the Wi-Fi Hub that was just added.
  4. Follow the instructions presented to add door sensor(s) and garage door
    opener(s) to the system.

When adding a device, there are a couple prompts to follow, one of which is if I recall just an instruction to locate the learn button on the overhead. Pressing continue then takes you to the page that instructs to press the button.

If you have further trouble, what model of opener are you attempting to add and what color is the learn button?

Going to try it now Jason. I’ve got a Craftsman with a purple button. Once pressed, it stays in learn mode for about 30 seconds. Before all of this, I removed the door from the MyQ app and places with Chamberlain support on the line to verify it was removed. Every time it says “Attempting try 1 of 1”, it gets hung up. This is where the gateway is supposed to be attempting a control the garage door and send a signal to it to go up or down. The door never moves. I’ll let you know what happens in a few.

It worked this last time. Most likely because I was taking screenshots of my browser for every single little step so I could capture any errors. Thanks for all the help!
