IQ4 Smart Disarm doesn't work

I am having the same problem others have had with Smart Disarming. IQ4 panel arms Stay in the evening according to my schedule (motion sensor does not arm in Stay mode). In the morning, I want the motion sensor (Group 17) to see me coming down the stairs and disarm during my time window. The motion sensor sees me according to its LED, but the panel doesn’t disarm. I reviewed the other posts and made sure the arm/disarm time windows don’t overlap. Arm Stay between 12:10 AM and 2:00 AM after 30 mins of inactivity (works great). Disarm between 6 AM and 10 AM when activity is detected, motion sensor checked (no joy). Please let me know thoughts.

When was the last time Smart Disarm worked correctly, or has it never worked? When was the last time this rule was supposed to fire, but didn’t? At that time, when the motion sensor is triggered does it show activated in Alarm.com?

If motion is being triggered during that wake up period, but the rule is not firing then delete the Wake Up Smart Arming portion. Once deleted, reboot the alarm panel (Settings > Advanced Settings> Reboot). Wait 5 minutes after reboot, then recreate the Wake Up portion again and test the next time that window occurs. Any change?

Tyler, smart disarm has never worked. After further investigation, it’s the motion sensor. The motion sensor LEDs (green, and amber/red together) activate when it sees motion, but the only activity that will register on the panel/alarm.com is Tamper. I tried deleting it and re-adding it, changed the battery, still not tripping. I can Arm Away and walk past it without it tripping. as it blinks green and red/amber at me. Is there a way to factory reset it?

Did you recently change the programming on that motion sensor?

I am showing that Zone 16 Motion Sensor is programmed as Group 25 Safety Motion. This sensor does not report or trigger an alarm. This is a chime only sensor when “Activity Monitoring” is active, regardless of panel status. I am showing recent status in Alarm.com for both motion activity and tamper.

While Motion Sensors can be used in Smart Arming they must be in either group 17, 20, 44, 43, or 35 . A run down of motion sensor groups and how they function can be found on page 71 of the manual here.

Additional information on Smart Arming can be found here:

AS far as resetting, what model of motion sensor are you using?

The model is the PG9984P. Battery is fresh (expiration date 2035, ~8 months installed)

Yes, I had moved it into Group 25 to try to test it the other night without waking people up. Even in chime mode, I wanted to see if the LED activity on the device registered as motion detected in the app/panel. It did not. Tonight, I moved it back to Group 17, Armed Away while in the house, walked by it a bunch, and it blinked but didn’t do anything else. I approached it and tampered it, and that set off the alarm. That event is showing in alarm.com as motion detected (4/14 10:36 ET), but if it was detected before the tamper, it was my hand reaching to pop off the sensor, not me walking 15 feet toward the sensor.

Is the device currently deleted from the system?

The PG9984P does have options to change:

  • Detection range - try changing this option and testing each
  • Detection event - Settings this to one does make the motion a bit more sensitive
  • High traffic shutdown - This turns off the motion detector for the amount of time specified in this section after motion is detected. When testing, I would turn this to off or tamper the motion to disable this temporarily

Thank you
