IQ4 Panel - Disable Touch? - Curious Kitten Problem

I have a Qolsys IQ4 panel. It has been working great for years.

Now we have a 1 year old cat that has decided the touch panel is fun to touch! She triggered the emergency panic alarm today! :man_facepalming:. Luckily, I could disable rapidly from my phone.

Crazy situation, but any suggestions how to cover the screen to prevent touch triggering? I tried a clear plastic cover, put the capacitive touch still gets triggered. I guess I might be using a cardboard cover?

Thanks!

Cardboard should do it, or thicker cardstock paper. From the sound of it I am guessing this is table mounted? Are you able to wall mount it in a nearby spot as another option?

Screen lock would be a solution for most actions, but emergency panics can still be accessed on the lock screen page without a code.

Thanks Jason. I’ve been doing some trial and error with materials.

The panel is wall mounted, but the cat uses a nearby credenza to reach up and touch the screen.

What I’ve learned is that the material must be thick. Thin plastic or cardboard will still trigger the capacitive panel. Thick cardboard seems to work.

I’m currently using a Mouse Pad that has been sized to cover the panel. The rubber backing on the mouse pad seems to stop any capacitive trigger.

Sounds like cats for you, always getting into trouble. By the time you figure out a good solution, they’ve moved on.

If you are unable to move the panel (or credenza) and you do end up using the Screen Lock as a means to prevent various interactions with the panel, like Jason stated, those emergency keys can still be accessed and I’m sure its right at paw height too. While we dont recommend it, you can disable those if needed. In programming under Sirens and Alarms you can disabled Police, Fire, and Auxiliary panic.

Will your cat try to touch the screen while it’s off? You could try setting the screen to turn off instead of showing the Weather Clock or Photo Frame.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Ok, I entered the Advanced Settings, using the Dealer Code.

  • I decided to Disable Panic Alarms (we currently self monitor, so I’m not sure what value they would have anyway).
  • I made a requirement to enter a user code in order to Arm the system. This prevents our cat from pressing “Arm Stay” with a simple paw touch!

Thanks!

Without 24/7 professional monitoring, there would not be much use outside of a local noise maker.
