My IQ2 system updated yesterday. The main panel update was uneventful. Then it pushed an update to the 3 IQ Remote panels over wifi. Two of the three panels updated fine. The third one got stuck in a reboot loop. I left it alone and it died overnight. Now it only shows a black display with an Android logo occasionally.
I know Qolsys discontinued IQ2 Remote, etc. etc. so I can’t buy a replacement. Do they offer a service to recover the panel, or a service to swap it for a refurb? I understand my system is out of warranty and I’m not expecting free. I just need a reasonable path to having my system fully functional again.
Closing the loop. The troubled IQ Remote panel miraculously recovered itself after about a day of being left alone. It was not powered for a couple of hours, not for any particular reason. Having nowhere else to put it, I reconnected power and put it back on the wall bracket. The display was black and the LED was not lit. There was never an indication of any activity whatsoever at any time. Many hours later I received an alert that the panel was back online. The display was still black. But I tapped the power button and the display turned on as normal.
Thank you for following up. That may have been battery related, the process you described inadvertently would have allowed the battery to discharge and charge back up after a few hours reconnected.
Following up, the IQ Remote panel has not been operating normally since it “recovered” itself. It was waking when touched and communicating with the main panel. But, the display was not showing weather information when idle like the others do. Also, it sometimes displays a black display but the backlight is on, so the display is not actually asleep. Thinking maybe some of the screensaver images were damaged. Not a huge issue but indicates corrupt data is still an issue.
Ultimately, it went offline again sometime last night and it remains offline. If I can get it to go back online, is there a mechanism (remote command) that you or alarm.com and send to force it to refresh/reimage? Alternately, does Qolsys offer recovery (for a fee if necessary). Noting, again for clarity, it was fine until the OTA software update so I still believe the hardware is ok.
There is no available version for us to push remotely once the panel is at the latest. It is not possible to roll firmware back on the panel or remotes.
It looks like this problem one is labeled IQ Remote 3, correct?
I think given the behavior you are seeing the next thing I would do is factory reset that IQ Remote, delete it from the panel and relearn it. The master reset is the best chance at resolving the behavior.
Are you able to access its screen? When accessing settings use your installer/dealer code and then use the Master Reset option.
If you delete the remote first, Master Reset will instead be under the three dots icon in the corner.
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try a factory reset if it boots again. It appears to have gone dark again during the day, no response when I touch the display and it does not wake if I tap the button. I don’t like my odds right now, but I’ll try repeating what I did before and see if it revives.
