Introducing the Secure Wi-Fi Smart Gateway

Meet the Alarm.com Secure Wi-Fi Smart Gateway. The Smart Gateway provides an easy, low cost, secure & dedicated Wi-Fi network for Alarm.com cameras. It’s a standard Wi-Fi access point so it works with most any Wi-Fi device, including the Qolsys IQ Panel and 2GIG GC3.

It’s specifically designed to solve the problem the occurs when traffic or changes on your Wi-Fi network interfere with the operation of your security system. A dedicated Wi-Fi network for your security system means it works reliably as long as the Smart Gateway is plugged into a router with internet access.

So do I have to hook this up to my router or anything? Just plug it in and the Qolsys panel will recognize it?

Is there an extra charge per month if using this?

Yes you connect it to your router with Ethernet. No the panel doesn’t automatically find it. You’d use WPS. It’s just a low cost locked down WiFi access point intended to be dedicated to cameras and panel. It also gives us some ability to access it remotely for troubleshooting.

There is no monthly fee for it.

It has good range for an AP with an internal antenna but not as good as higher end APs with big external antennas.

Hi, can the SG130 be used to connect an alarm.com camera that has poor WiFi connectivity to the main home router, with the other cameras remaining on the home router?

Yes but if you have an SVR on the home router the camera on the SC130 won’t work with it because they have to be one the same network.

If all cameras are connected to the SC130, would that mean the SVR can’t see the cameras since the SC130 AP will be a separate WiFi network from the home router?

If that is the case, is there a better solution to improve WiFi signal strength to cameras with a weak signal and still enable the SVR?

If all cameras are connected to the SC130, would that mean the SVR can’t see the cameras since the SC130 AP will be a separate WiFi network from the home router?

That’s what Roy mentioned above, however, Alarm.com indicates that is not true. From ADC:

“If the Smart Gateway (SG130) and Streaming Video Recorder (SVR) are connected to the same local area network (LAN), the SVR should be able to record video from the video devices connected to the Smart Gateway.”
