Intermittently working Door Sensor

We operate a Surety monitored Qolsys IQ Panel 4 with 319.5 daughter card and, besides other, 15 Qolsys QS1132-840 door/window sensors. Of those there is one senor, mounted on the metal cladded garage door in the detached garage that is only working intermittently, showing the door at times open when actually closed. The distance from the panel to the garage door is ~ 18ft, the distance between magnet and sensor very short, 0.1". We have already bought a new sensor, changed the battery, checked the door for any play, nothing fixed the issue. Any other input would be appreciated.

Metal surfaces can cause significant attenuation of RF signals, and the smaller and lower profile the sensor is the more likely the antenna won’t be able to deal with that.

Is this a door from the house to the garage or a door from the garage to the exterior?

I would consider a PowerG sensor like the PG9945 instead. PowerG will be affected by metal as well, but a larger sensor with 4 times the inherent range is likely to overcome the issue.

If the issue persists you could then use the PG9945 as a transmitter and connect a wired sensor to the PG9945 aux input. Use the wired sensor on the door, which will avoid the signaling issues by allowing you to mount the wireless sensor where it can best communicate.

Jason, thanks for answering this. It wasn’t my question, but it probably explains why I couldn’t get this to work on my metal mailbox using a 2GIG 345MHz sensor.
