Interlogix Concord 4 panels

I’m considering moving my service to SuretyDIY when my contract ends next month. I’m prepared to purchase a new cellular module rather than trying to get the existing one unlocked/released.

I currently have Interlogix Concord 4 panels in my home. There are 3 of them. I believe the cellular module is located in a large electrical style control box in the basement, not within these keypad panels. Does that sound correct? If I later want to upgrade to nicer touch screen panels, like the 2GIG GC3 Security & Control Panel (https://suretyhome.com/product/2gig-gc3-security-control-panel-2gig-gc3-345/) is that possible?

I notice that these newer panels ask you to select a cellular module when you purchase them, so I’m wondering if the cellular service module is located inside. I don’t know if that will work with my system since my existing cellular module may be in the control box in the basement. My system is mainly wired, with on a few wireless sensors on some out of the way windows. Everything else runs down via wires to that electrical box in the basement. Any new keypads I get will have to work with the existing control box. The Concord 4 is fine, but I’d eventually like something fancier.

My best guess is that these newer panels have the option to house a cell module in place of a central control box like I have, but can also function has basic keypads since a house with multiple control pads would not need to multiple cellular modules, but I just want to make sure that’s the case.

Can you provide me with some guidance regarding how this might work for me? Can a fancier touch-screen keypad be wired into my existing system, or am I stuck with the old-fashioned keypads unless I upgrade everything?

I hope these questions make sense. I’m trying to decide if this a project that I’m capable of tackling on my own, or if I just need to keep the professionally installed system as it is. Thank you for your help.

Chris

We are happy to assist! As a clarification to avoid confusion, there is only one “Panel” The 3 keypads you refer to are just that, keypads. They are just an interface for the panel. The panel itself is the metal box you refer to in the basement where wiring converges.

Yes, the cellular module would be likely located near the metal box. On a Concord 4 it is a separate unit which gets wired into the communication bus like keypads do, so it may be mounted on its own outside the box or it may be inside with the antenna running out of the box. Here is a link to the module manual.

This page goes over how to get started with suretyDIY with a Concord 4.

The Concord 4 and the 2GIG GC3 are two distinct panels. The GC3 cannot replace a Concord Keypad in a Concord 4 system. You would be replacing the function of the entire Concord 4 system.

Yes, the GC3 cellular module, like the GC2, Simon, and Qolsys IQ panels, is found within the panel. These are all-in-one wireless panels.

You can of course switch to a GC3 if desired, and it is not too tough to do so, but that is a branching question. Ultimately, you would be using a TAKE-345 to convert your wired sensor zones into 345mhz wireless signals for the GC3.

The GC3 could reuse existing wiring (with its own plug in power supply wired at the other end), and the Takeover module would use the existing Concord panel’s Aux power and battery backup, but the Concord would no longer control signaling and the other two keypads would not function with the GC3.

Using a GC3 would be effectively replacing all the existing keypads and control panel. If you prefer to keep using the Concord 4, touchscreen controls do exist. Here is a link to the manufacturer page. They do not have all the features a GC3 or other panel would, but they do have a more updated look for a wired system.
