I have a door between my garage and house that I would like to configure as an interior follower. I tried using zone type 4 (NX8v2 panel), but that makes ADC thinks that it’s a motion sensor, and that its actuated when the door is closed.
Any suggestions for how to set up an interior door so that its bypassed in “stay”, and instant in “away”?
Well, I contacted Interlogix, waiting on another call back after they look into it.
I’m not seeing a way to do that myself. Most panels have an Interior Contact zone type, or let you specify motion vs contact for a global interior type.
NX looks to just have multiple interior types that variously allow or deny auto bypass, group bypass, tamper, cross-zoning etc., but it looks like none can be specified as a contact that I can tell.
You can always try other interior zone types and test whether ADC recognizes them as contacts (perhaps they are by default chosen as the common contact type) but I am not sure any would make a difference.
Based on some online conversations, I’m told that the “contact” designation for my zone 2 (garage door) should be made in the ADC settings, vice the NX panel (since “interior follower” zone type is not just for motion sensors, which seems to be the ADC default).
I don’t see any way to set that on my end - can it be configured on your end?
Sensors are assigned a Zone type by the panel. The panel transmits the zone type to Alarm.com.
You cannot, for example, program a sensor as a perimeter instant zone type in the panel, then have Alarm.com treat it as a motion, Alarm.com would not be receiving corresponding signals.
It would need to be adjusted at the panel itself.
I looked more into the NX8 Manual and I think you can do what you are looking to do.
There is no way on NX to make an Interior Follower report as a contact to ADC that I can find, but it looks like what you can do is use an existing unused door zone type and give it the Interior Follower attributes.
Choose a door zone type you do not use for your existing sensors and using the table on page 50-52, adjust Segment 1 of the “Feature Selection” (the odd numbered) Location. Segment 1 would need both 4 and 7 active.
That should give you a zone type which will perform as an interior follower and report to ADC as a contact.
