I have a 2GIG GC3 system in my house, and a fair amount of integration - wifi garage door, thermostats, some lighting.
We recently installed a driveway gate and I’d like to get that integrated with the alarm.com app both for knowing when it’s open/closed and to actually open and close it.
Any suggestions on products to do this? I figure z-wave or wifi would work, but I’ll need some sort of sensor to determine gate position as well. I see there’s a z-wave garage controller on the website, theoretically this should work except it uses a tilt sensor and the gate swings open, so I don’t see that being effective.
Appreciate it, but the gate and operator are already installed, and it’s not a liftmaster product (it’s Viking). So I’ll need something that is basically generic.
I’m not aware of any dedicated retrofit gate operator. In the past a handful of users have attempted to rig a solution with relays and Z-wave switches, but there is no status feedback or safety measures like in a purpose built compatible operator like MyQ. I would not recommend trying to rig a solution with an incompatible opener.
If you’re willing to go through the trouble and expense, you can safely build a workaround that implements all safety features. It’s going to be a bit clunky and complicated though. Almost certainly better off just buying the new opener and selling the current one.
