I see from the install manual that the PG9WLSHW8 is compatible with the system sensor i3 2-wire smoke detectors. I was wondering whether that means the takeover module is able to receive the maintenance signals from the smoke detectors. Or, is the only way to get that signal to also install the System Sensor MOD2W module?

The two wire smoke when wired into a PG9WLSHW8 will only read an alarm when activated. You will need the MOD2W module to get the Maintenance signal feature of the smoke.
