A Nami Activity Sensor does not detect motion
nami Alarm Pods and SensePlugs are activity sensors that work together to detect motion. To detect activity, a minimum of two devices per zone is required, though three devices per zone are recommended to enhance the data collection.
Sensitivity
If the sensitivity level is set to low, then the system may require additional movement for a few seconds in order for motion to be detected and for the alarm event to register.
With that said, it is not recommended to set the sensitivity level to high because it significantly increases the risk of false alarms, for instance from neighbors walking by. Indoor considerations include robot vacuums, pets, and children, all of which could trigger undesirable alarm events on with a high sensitivity threshold.
How to resolve:
If you are using at least two devices but motion is not detected, there are a few areas to troubleshoot:
- Confirm that the devices are online.
- Confirm that the devices are placed on the same floor and within 3-10 meters (10-32 feet) of each other.
Note: Metal appliances such as microwave ovens, speakers, and fish tanks could interfere with Wi-Fi signals. As such, it is best practice not to place devices behind such objects, and the nami solution is also not recommended for use in office environments.
A Nami device is offline
How to resolve:
- Confirm that the nami device is powered on.
a. Ensure Alarm Pods and SensePlugs are properly inserted into their power sockets and the power sockets are turned on. If an Alarm Pod is showing as offline, try using the original power supply adapter if it is not already being used.
b. Ensure that Contact Sensors and Keypad have batteries inserted and that the battery levels are not depleted. - Confirm that the Wi-Fi router and network that the devices are using are operational.
- For devices to function, the Wi-Fi router needs to:
a. Allow DNS requests for the eisbach.nami.surf domain name.
b. Allow outgoing TCP connections on port 5684.
c. Allow traffic from Europe (where nami’s servers are located). - If the credentials of the router have changed, the nami devices must be set up again.
- For devices to function, the Wi-Fi router needs to:
- Confirm that the devices are within range of the internet network, especially if the devices have been moved to a new location.
- Ensure no metal appliances are between devices, and the devices are within range of the Thread network, which is within 3-10 meters (10-32 feet) of the Thread border router devices of Alarm Pods or SensePlugs.
Nami device LED not pulsing during setup
During setup, when the devices are in pairing mode, nami Alarm Pods and SensePlugs should pulse dark blue, whereas Contact Sensors should pulse white. If the device’s LED is not pulsing during setup, try the following troubleshooting steps.
How to resolve:
- Confirm that the devices are connected to the power supply as expected.
- Confirm that the devices are in pairing mode.
- For Contact Sensors, press the button at the top of the device (press and release within one second) to enable pairing mode, and verify that plastic tabs within the device have been removed.
- For Keypads, press the [0] key once to enable pairing mode, and verify that the plastic tabs within the device have been removed.
- If the device is still not pulsing, try resetting it to factory settings.
