How to Reuse an Alarm.com Cellular Module

If you already have an Alarm.com compatible alarm system and you want to switch to Surety, it may be as easy as checking your module here and signing up on our website.

However, there may be an additional step or two needed, and you may need to contact the prior service provider to get the module released.

My module says it is registered

A module is linked to an Alarm.com account via its IMEI number, and a cellular module can only be assigned to one Alarm.com account at a time. Alarm.com dealers register this IMEI number for you.

If you check your module and it reports it is still registered in Alarm.com, that means that the Alarm.com account with that IMEI number assigned to it is still active.

How do I get it unregistered?

In order for that IMEI to be unregistered, the Alarm.com account associated with it needs to be deleted. Only the alarm dealer that created the account can delete it.

Reach out to the dealer to get the account deleted. If you have already cancelled with them, they may intentionally leave your account active through the end of your current billing period, or they may just not have deleted the Alarm.com account yet.

Other considerations

The module must be a 4G LTE model as of this post. Older 3G modules can no longer be used to activate service due to the impending 3G cellular sunset. Carriers will stop supporting all 3G module communication by 2022.

We cannot tell if your module is 3G or 4G while it is registered to an Alarm.com account. However, there are different ways to tell if the module is 4G.

If you have an IQ Panel 2/2+, it is 4G LTE. There were no 3G only versions of that panel released.

On other panels, an easy way to determine if a module is 3G or 4G is by the cellular antenna. If there is only one antenna, it is a 3G module. If there are two, it is 4G LTE.

If you are having trouble identifying your panel or module, please reach out to support@suretyhome.com or send us a message here on our support site.
