How does door lock access work for temporary user?

When I create a temporary user, I can set a future FROM date and time, a TO date and time, and I can grant door lock privilege to the user.

My question is: Does this mean that exactly at the configured FROM time, Alarm.com will message my panel to message my lock to add this user to the user table on my lock?

And conversely, exactly at the configured TO time, Alarm.com will message my panel to message my lock to delete this user from the user table on my lock?

It seems like this must be the case but I want to be positive. I use my panels to secure Airbnb rental units with short term guests. So the temporary user function – specifically for lock users – is critical to me. Thanks!

It won’t be “exactly” at, but within the margin for command response. Typically you should see the change take effect within a few minutes of the prescribed time.

Overall, yes, that is what to expect. Make sure the locks have quality communication with your control panel. If there is a high reliance on them functioning properly you will want a few repeating nodes in between, depending on distance.

OK, got it. Thanks Warren. The lock user doesn’t need to be added or removed that very second, as long as it’s reasonably close that’s fine.

Communication so far with my locks has been OK.

If there was a lock communication failure when the panel adds/removes a lock user how would I be alerted to this? I don’t see any option for notification of such an event in the Notifications options. Or would notifications for this event be covered under “One of my devices malfunctions” under System Event Notifications?

Lock communication malfunctions would be covered by the “One of my Devices Malfunctions”

Individual commands not being acknowledged do not generate individual notifications though, and the malfunction above is after repeated failure to communicate.

As long as you have a couple repeaters or the distance between the lock and panel is small, it should be fine.

Great. Thanks Jason!
