I have an older 1942 home and am starting from scratch with video surveillance. I have a Qolsys IQ Panel 2+ and I would like a wired camera system. Can you please tell me what I need to buy to get started and the best camera for outdoors. I have been looking at the ADC-VC736. Is this the best camera for my needs? What other materials do I need for installation etc. I’m a total newbie at installing camera systems so any help and recommendations will be helpful.
The bullet cameras have a narrower 86° field of view which is better for longer range. The dome cameras have a wider 108° field of view which is better for covering more area at a shorter range.
The ADC-VC736 has more powerful infrared for seeing longer range at night, rated at 260ft. The other 3 cameras have infrared rated at 95ft.
The ADC-VC736 has a rain visor which may help keep water drops from interfering with the image better than the others. The dome cameras are usually mounted under an overhang so water doesn’t usually reach them as easily.
The ADC-V726 and ADC-V826 cost the least and the ADC-VC736 costs the most.
They’re all good cameras but each one has advantages and disadvantages in different situations. You might want to use a mix of them depending on what you’re trying to capture with each camera. We don’t currently sell the wired cameras but we’re considering adding them if enough people are interested. But they’re available elsewhere and they’ll work fine with our plans. You might try LVS as a starting point.
You’ll need a good PoE switch or PoE injectors to power them and I highly recommend the SVR so you can record locally 24/7 in addition to storing video clips in the cloud.
I hope that helps. Can you share any more about what you are trying to cover with these cameras? What other questions do you have?
