It seems odd to me that the Alarm.com EmPower rules cannot be configured to automatically switch my thermostat to/from heat/cool. For example, if the temp rises above a certain level, I want A/C to automatically kick in (even if the thermostat is set to Heat). Are there any plans to implement this functionality? Seems simple to me.

It would seem you are asking about Auto-Mode, I think. This can be selected either at the thermostat or remotely in Alarm.com.
Create schedules for heat and cool, then select your “Mode” as “auto” on the T-stat card. You can turn on or off your schedules on the card independent of the Mode.
If the temp breaks your Heat Low temp threshold, heat kicks in. If it breaks your Cool high temp threshold, AC kicks in.
EmPower only shows me three modes: Off, Cool, Heat. I only have an Auto option for the fan, not the mode. Is this a limitation of my thermostat? I have a CT30e.

Yes. The CT30 documentation specifically omits auto mode from the mode selection description. If you cycle through modes at the thermostat using the mode button, is auto an option?
No. I figured this may be a limitation of my thermostat. I guess it’s time to buy a CT100.
