Double Checking my Camera Install for Live monitoring

I am currently using my doorbell for live monitoring. I want to upgrade to and ADC branded exterior camera. Can you check to make sure I have this right:

I have a non powered cat6 cable in the attic. I will cut it and terminate both ends.

I will then buy a POE switch and plug both all 3 ethernet terminated cables in to the switch (internet feed, internet out, and the camera)

will the switch add power to the two cables not needing power and damage anything?

What brand of switch do I get?

I don’t need this hooked up to a dvr as I have a separate system for recording. The camera will have its own ip address and can be detected by ADC without being plugged into any additional ADC module or DVR?

There are new 2 way cameras from ADC coming out. When do you anticipate release?

Does the cat6 in the attic go to where your internet router is? You should only need two cables in the switch if it’s dedicated to this camera, one goes to the camera and the other goes to the router.

If you add more cameras then they could also go in that PoE switch.

The switch will add power to any PoE-powered device you connect it to. It won’t add power to non-PoE devices. But PoE switches also usually have an extra port for the internet link which isn’t a PoE port.

PoE is a standard (IEEE 802.3af) so any quality switch should work. If you want a recommendation, Alarm.com sells the TP Link TL-SF1005P to dealers. If it’s only ever going to be one camera you can also use the TP-Link TL-PoE170S injector. But any 802.3af switch or injector should work.

Correct, Alarm.com PoE camera don’t require an SVR. They work directly with Alarm.com.

I anticipate the new cameras to be released in August or September but that’s honestly just a guess not a promise.

If you use the PoE floodlight camera (ADC-VC729P) it needs PoE++ (802.3bt). Regular PoE (802.3af) doesn’t provide enough power for it. The other PoE cameras like the ADC-VC727P are fine with regular PoE.

The cable goes to another switch that goes to the router.

That cable goes to another switch in the kitchen. To provide ethernet there.

So I have to cut the cable and send the signal to the kitchen.

Therefor the poe switch will have 3 cables. In, out , and camera. This should all be ok, right?

Oh yeah that makes sense.
