I’m having allot of issues lately with my door bell. Error message saying device not responding. Is there something that I can do it check to stop this from happening. It is definitely a security issue since I have my door bell set to start recording upon detecting motion.
Just curious, which doorbell are you talking about? The 2GIG one or the Skybell HD for Alarm.com with camera?
Error message saying device not responding. Is there something that I can do it check to stop this from happening.
The doorbell is reporting poor wireless connectivity. Signal strength is showing drops to about 85%, and you’ll need at least 90+ to maintain solid performance at high resolution. It does show intermittent improvements, so it may be environment or bandwidth based.
This is not uncommon, and can be affected by the construction around the door, distance, etc.
Where is your router located in relation to the doorbell? Have you made any network changes recently? Added any other wifi devices, etc.? Have you noticed poor performance from the start or has this started occurring more recently?
You may wish to tweak your network settings/adjust the location of your wireless access point(s). I see that only about half of the recent supervision checks are successful.
Another thing you can try is lowering the device resolution to see if that improves connection. If not, network adjustments may be necessary.
Have you added any new wifi devices around that time or made any network changes?
If all else is the same and you started seeing poorer performance after a long period of proper function, try power cycling the Router/access point. Does performance improve over the next day or so?
If not we can then try rebooting the doorbell cam.
Please go ahead an do a reboot of the doorbell as nothing else has changed. The doorbell sits the same distance away from my router as my other camera and that one still has great signal strength. I also forgot to mentioned that at times when I come home at night I would noticed the doorbell flashing different colors, what is that all about?
Took a few tries for the Skybell to respond, but a reboot command has been sent.
If you do not see improvement, then please try power cycling the router when possible. In general, about 9/10 networking issues can be resolved by this, so it is never a bad place to start.
I also forgot to mentioned that at times when I come home at night I would noticed the doorbell flashing different colors, what is that all about?
The color of the LED would indicate the status. What colors were flashing?
If it flashes blue and green, it has a wifi connection but cannot connect to the servers. This may be due to bandwidth limits/upload speed.
If orange, this indicates it cannot connect to wifi.
Red and Blue flashing indicates the battery is charging, and may indicate you have intermittent power problems.
So two nights ago I notice all of those flashing lights green blue and orange I have resetted my router a couple times disconnected and reconnected the doorbell lower the resolution and still isn’t functioning properly. When I disconnected the doorbell and noticed that it is swollen much like the old cell phone batteries that has been recharged too many times used to look like. How can I obtain information about manufacturer warranty on this doorbell?
If it was an Alarm.com branded model purchased from suretyDIY you can find our return and warranty policy here.
If it was purchased from a different vendor you’ll want to contact that vendor regarding warranty policy and process.
The Skybell retail manufacturer warranty can be found here.
If you notice pronounced physical swelling I would agree you’ll want to look to replacing. There is an internal battery, though I have not noticed this issue on any units here. I would suggest testing the voltage being applied across the doorbell wires if you have a multimeter, just in case, to make sure it is not outside of the accepted power input.
