Door Contact False Trigger

For the past several days, the same door contact has been triggering alarm.

The door has not been opened any of the times the alarm has been triggered. Is it a early sign of a bad contact?

Wired or wireless? EOL resistor? What panel?

It could be a bad sensor but another potential problem is that the sensor or magnet has moved slightly, or the door has moved or swelled slightly. It could move the magnet just far enough from the reed switch that it isn’t holding it closed enough.

Wireless door contact - 2gig thin door contact.

2gig gc3 panel.

Can you provide a photo of the sensor with the door in a closed position?

Just to clarify, that is not a 2GIG Thin Door Window (DW10), that looks like an Alula/Resolution Products sensor model. Regardless though that appears to be pretty far toward the edge of its magnetic gap, especially since it looks like the magnet may be deeper and not on the same flat plane, increasing that distance. Try to get the magnet aligned closer to the sensor.

Ok. I’ll try to realign. But the contact has been in the same spot for 7 years and never had an issue until last week

It could be a fluke, it could be that the door just physically has a little more play now and can let the magnet get pulled just far enough away. It’s more likely a physical issue with the magnet than a failing sensor, but if you do see it continue with the magnet more closely aligned, swap the battery then consider re-orienting the sensor as a test.

Thank you
