Does Alarm.com shut off the thermostat during a smoke, fire, or CO alarm?

In the event of a smoke, fire, or carbon monoxide alarm on the security system, Alarm.com automatically turns the Alarm.com-connected thermostats to OFF mode, including the fan, to prevent the circulation of smoke and poisonous gas. This is a default and highly recommended setting for all Alarm.com systems with a thermostat attached, but it can be disabled or re-enabled on the customer website using the following steps.

Compatibility

In general all of the Alarm.com thermostats (ADC T2000, T3000, and T40K-HD) as well as other Z-Wave thermostats supported by Alarm.com are compatible with this feature.

Third party Wi-Fi thermostats such as Google Nest and Ecobee do not support the fire safety rule to shut off the HVAC during a fire/CO alarm.

To enable/disable the Fire Safety rule:

  1. Log into the customer website.
  2. Click Automation.
  3. For the Fire Safety rule, click the toggle switch to enable/disable the setting.

Note: If the thermostat is shut off using the Fire Safety rule, it will not be turned back on automatically after the smoke, fire, or CO alarm clears. The customer will need to manually adjust the thermostat back to its desired mode.
